Motorhome Solar Installation
Custom motorhome solar systems, designed around how you travel and professionally installed at our Christchurch workshop — so your batteries recover each day and your power's there wherever the South Island takes you.
Solar Built for Motorhome Travel
A motorhome solar installation should feel simple: park up, enjoy your spot, and know your batteries will recover each day. Motorhomes have their own demands — bigger roofs to plan around hatches, vents and satellite domes, full-time living loads, and the fact you drive between locations — so an off-the-shelf kit rarely cuts it.
We design complete motorhome solar systems around your power use and roof layout, then install them neatly and safely at our Christchurch workshop — built to handle New Zealand roads and conditions. New to it all? Our complete motorhome solar guide is a good place to start.
A Complete Motorhome Solar System
Every install is tailored to your motorhome, but a typical system we build includes:
System Planning & Design
We work out what you want to run, how you travel and your seasonal sunlight, then size panels and batteries to match — not guesswork.
Quality Components
High-efficiency panels, Victron MPPT controllers, Enerdrive lithium batteries, protection devices and proper cabling — brands NZ owners trust.
Tidy Roof Installation
Panels mounted securely for highway speeds, worked in around your hatches, vents and aerials, with a neat, weatherproof roof entry.
Charge While You Drive
A DC-DC charger (Redarc or Projecta) tops up your house batteries from the alternator as you drive between spots — not just from the sun.
Testing & Handover
We test everything and walk you through charging, battery status and what to expect — so you head off knowing exactly how it all works.
Inverter Power (Optional)
Want to run 230V appliances off-grid — kettle, coffee machine, tools? We can add a Victron inverter as part of the system.
Motorhome Solar Packages & Pricing

Batteries, Inverters & Upgrades
Solar is one part of the picture. The right batteries and charging make the difference between a setup that keeps up and one that doesn't.
Lithium Battery Upgrades
Battery capacity and type decide how long you run loads overnight and how fast you recover. Upgrade to quality lithium for longer stays.
RV battery upgradesInverter Installation
To run higher-draw 230V appliances off-grid, an inverter is often the missing piece. We integrate it into your solar and battery system.

Which motorhome solar package should I choose?
Start with how you travel — weekends versus extended off-grid — and what you want to power (fridge, devices, TV, coffee machine). Then factor in roof space and battery capacity. Our solar calculator is a good starting point, and we'll confirm the best fit before we install.
Can I charge the batteries while I'm driving?
Yes — and for motorhomes it matters, because you move between spots. A DC-DC charger (Redarc or Projecta) tops up your house batteries from the alternator as you drive, so you're not relying on sun alone. It's ideal for NZ trips with shorter winter days.
Does solar work in a New Zealand winter?
It still charges in winter, but daily harvest is lower — so correct sizing and battery capacity matter more. If you tour in colder months, we'll recommend a setup that keeps you comfortable and powered.
Can you upgrade my existing motorhome solar setup?
Yes. If your current system can't keep up, we can add panels, improve regulation and optimise charging. See expand existing RV & caravan solar systems.
How long does a motorhome solar install take?
It depends on your roof layout, access, and whether you're adding batteries or an inverter. When you enquire, tell us your motorhome make and model and what you want to power, and we'll advise the best approach and timeframe.
Where are you based and what areas do you cover?
Our workshop is at 64 Sandyford Street, Sydenham, Christchurch. We look after motorhome owners throughout Canterbury and across the wider South Island — many customers plan a trip through Christchurch for larger solar and battery builds.
