RV Electrical Testing & Certification
Electrical inspections, EWOF certification and safety testing for motorhomes and caravans — making sure your RV's electrical system is safe, compliant and ready to travel, completed by a registered electrician.
Electrical Safety for Your RV
Your RV's electrical system is complex — combining 12V DC, 230V AC mains, solar charging, inverters and battery management. Regular testing and certification makes sure it all works safely and meets New Zealand electrical standards.
At RV Solutions in Christchurch we provide electrical testing and certification for motorhomes and caravans — from EWOF (Electrical Warrant of Fitness) inspections to fault-finding and repairs. Whether you're buying a used RV, preparing for registration or fitting a 230V system, or maintaining your current vehicle, professional testing protects you from electrical hazards and keeps you compliant. It's part of our complete RV electrical services.

Need an EWOF Certificate?
Any motorhome or caravan with a fixed 230V mains electrical system needs an EWOF (Electrical Warrant of Fitness) to meet legal requirements. It verifies your RV's 230V system is safe and compliant with AS/NZS 3001.2.

Do I need an EWOF for my RV?
If your motorhome or caravan has a fixed 230V mains electrical system — one that plugs into mains or campground power — it needs an EWOF (Electrical Warrant of Fitness). It's a legal requirement and must be completed by a registered electrician to AS/NZS 3001.2.
See our dedicated EWOF certification service for the detail.
How long is an EWOF valid?
An EWOF is generally valid for up to 4 years from issue. We'll let you know your expiry and can re-test when it's due.
What's the difference between an EWOF and a safety inspection?
An EWOF is the formal compliance certificate for your RV's fixed 230V system, required to connect it to mains power. A safety inspection is a broader check — covering both 12V and 230V — that's ideal pre-purchase or as an annual once-over, without necessarily issuing the EWOF certificate.
Do you do pre-purchase electrical inspections?
Yes. A pre-purchase electrical inspection is one of the smartest checks before buying a used motorhome or caravan — we'll verify the 12V and 230V systems and give you a clear report so there are no nasty surprises.
What happens if something fails the test?
We identify exactly what's wrong and explain it in plain English. As a full electrical workshop we can carry out the repairs and then re-test, so you leave with a safe, compliant system rather than just a list of faults.
Who carries out the testing, and do you test both 12V and 230V?
Testing and EWOF certification are completed by a registered electrician to New Zealand standards. We test both the 12V DC and 230V AC sides of your system, along with charging, solar and protection devices.
