RV Bike Rack Installation
Professional bike rack installation for motorhomes, caravans and campervans — e-bike rated racks with secure mounting and easy loading, fitted at our Christchurch workshop to New Zealand safety requirements.
Take Your Bikes Anywhere
Exploring New Zealand's cycle trails is one of the great joys of RV travel — from easy wine trails to serious mountain-bike tracks, there's a ride for every ability. To enjoy them, you need a safe, reliable way to carry your bikes.
Racks come in several styles — wall-mounted to a motorhome's rear, A-frame racks for caravans, and ladder-mounted options — each with its own advantages. We install them at our Christchurch workshop on motorhomes, caravans and campervans. Whether you ride traditional bikes or heavier e-bikes, we'll help you choose the right rack and fit it securely to New Zealand safety requirements.
Why Install a Bike Rack?
The advantages of taking your bikes along:
Explore More of NZ
Reach New Zealand's world-class cycle trails from your RV — get to places you can't drive to and find the hidden gems off the main routes.
Secure Transport
Professional fitting keeps your bikes mounted safely and stops them damaging each other — or your RV — on the road.
E-Bike Rated
Modern racks carry heavier e-bikes with load capacities up to around 60kg, so you can take electric bikes and tackle tougher terrain.
Easy Loading
Tiltable platforms, detachable arms and adjustable wheel holders — and on some racks, electric lifts or ramps — make loading effortless.
Save Interior Space
Keep bikes outside instead of giving up valuable living space — and keep the dirt and grime out of your RV.
Lockable Security
Quality racks include lockable bike-to-rack systems and one-key options to protect your bikes at campgrounds and attractions.
Types of Bike Rack
Four mounting options — we'll match the right one to your vehicle and bikes:
Wall-Mounted Racks
Bolted securely to the rear wall of your motorhome — the most popular option, with excellent stability and capacity.
- Secure bolted install to rear wall
- Carries 2–4 bikes (model dependent)
- E-bike compatible (up to ~60kg total)
- Tiltable platforms for rear access
- Electric-lift models available
- Best for solid rear walls
A-Frame / Drawbar Racks
Designed for caravans, mounting to the A-frame drawbar and tilting forward so you can still reach the front locker.
- Mounts to caravan A-frame drawbar
- Pivots forward for locker access
- Fits standard A-frame designs
- Suits normal and e-bikes
- Typically carries 2 bikes
- Ideal for caravans & trailers
Ladder-Mounted Racks
Hook onto your RV's existing rear ladder — no drilling required. Great for smaller RVs or a removable option.
- Hooks onto a standard RV ladder
- No drilling or permanent fixing
- Easy to install and remove
- Adjustable straps and mounts
- Best for lighter bikes
- Budget-friendly
Electric Bike Lifts
PremiumA 12V motor lowers the platform for loading and raises it for transport — perfect for tall motorhomes or heavier e-bikes.
- 12V electric motor operation
- Lowers up to 70cm for easy access
- Ideal for e-bikes up to ~50kg
- No heavy lifting required
- Manual platform lock for security
- Premium convenience
Choosing the Right Rack
A few things to weigh up — and we're happy to talk it through:
- Your RV type — some racks are made specifically for motorhomes, caravans or campervans.
- Number of bikes — how many you carry (usually 2–4).
- Bike type & weight — e-bikes need higher-capacity racks (up to ~60kg total).
- Access needs — do you need to reach rear doors or storage with bikes loaded?
Why Professional Installation Matters
Your bike rack must be mounted securely and meet the appropriate safety requirements. A poorly fitted rack risks damage to your bikes and RV — or, at worst, a serious road accident.
Our team has the experience and equipment to fit your rack correctly, so it's safe and compliant for New Zealand roads.
Bike Rack Questions, Answered
Which bike rack suits my RV?
Wall-mounted racks suit most motorhomes; A-frame racks are made for caravans; ladder-mounted racks are a simple, no-drill option for lighter bikes; and electric-lift racks make loading heavy e-bikes effortless. We'll match the right type to your vehicle, your bikes and how you travel.
Can these racks carry e-bikes?
Yes — we fit e-bike rated racks with total load capacities up to around 60kg. For heavier e-bikes or tall motorhomes, an electric-lift rack takes the lifting out of loading altogether.
Do you have to drill into my RV?
It depends on the rack. Wall-mounted racks bolt securely to the rear wall, while ladder-mounted racks hook onto your existing ladder with no drilling. We'll recommend the best fit for your RV and explain what's involved before any work starts.
How many bikes can I carry?
Most racks carry between 2 and 4 bikes, depending on the rack and your vehicle's rear-wall or drawbar capacity. We'll make sure the rack you choose handles the number and weight of bikes you want to take.
How long does installation take?
Most installs are completed within a day. We'll confirm the timeframe once we've chosen the right rack and assessed your RV.
