Should I upgrade to lithium or AGM batteries?
Lithium batteries offer more usable capacity, faster charging, longer lifespan, and lighter weight—but cost more upfront. AGM batteries are more affordable and proven, but heavier and with less usable capacity. Your choice depends on budget, travel style, and whether you need maximum performance or reliable basics.
How much battery capacity do I need?
It depends on what you run and how long you stay off-grid. A fridge, lights, and device charging might need 100-200Ah of usable capacity per day. If you're adding inverter loads (microwaves, coffee machines), you'll need more. We help size batteries based on your actual usage and solar charging setup.
Can I mix different battery types?
No—you shouldn't mix lithium and AGM, or different ages/brands of batteries in the same bank. Mixing causes imbalanced charging, reduced performance, and potential damage. If upgrading, replace the entire battery bank with matched batteries of the same type, capacity, and age.
Will I need to upgrade my charging system too?
Often, yes. Lithium batteries require lithium-compatible charging (from solar controllers, DC-DC chargers, and mains chargers). AGM batteries work with most existing chargers but may benefit from updated settings. We assess your charging setup and recommend what needs upgrading alongside the batteries.
How long do RV batteries last?
Lithium batteries typically last 8-10+ years with proper care. AGM batteries usually last 3-5 years depending on usage and charging habits. Battery lifespan depends on depth of discharge, charging quality, temperature, and maintenance. Regular use and correct charging extend battery life significantly.
