Effortless Caravan Manoeuvring

A motor mover is a 12V motorised device clamped to your caravan chassis, with rollers that drive against the tyres. Controlled by a remote handset — much like a radio-controlled car — it propels the caravan in any direction you choose.

That means you can position any single or twin axle caravan where your tow vehicle simply can't reach — think sliding a heavy twin axle into a tight carport or storage space, effortlessly. We install motor movers on single and twin axle caravans at our Christchurch workshop, for owners across Canterbury and the South Island.

Why Fit One

Why Install a Motor Mover?

The advantages of remote-controlled caravan positioning:

Precision Positioning

Place your caravan with pinpoint accuracy — perfect for tight parking spots, storage, or sites where reversing a vehicle would be difficult or impossible.

Single-Person Operation

Do it solo — no one needed to guide or push. Walk around the caravan with the remote and see exactly where it's going.

Soft Start & Stop

Smooth, jerk-free movement protects your caravan from sudden jolts and makes positioning easier and safer.

Handles Gradients

Quality movers hold the caravan steady on a slope and provide the torque to move it up inclines — no rolling away.

No More Tricky Reversing

A safer, easier option if you're not confident reversing — take the stress out of getting the caravan into place.

Built to Last

Components are protected against water spray, dirt and oil — e-coated and powder-coated for corrosion resistance in NZ conditions.

Choose Your System

Types of Motor Mover

Two ways to engage the rollers — pick the one that suits how often you'll use it:

Manual Engagement

Budget-friendly

Uses a crank handle or engagement tool to bring the rollers onto the tyres. Once engaged, you drive the caravan by remote.

  • Lower cost than automatic systems
  • Simple, reliable operation
  • Manual engagement before use
  • Remote control once engaged
  • Cross-actuation bar — engage from either side
  • Great for home storage use

Automatic Engagement

Premium
Ultimate convenience

Built-in 12V actuators engage and disengage the rollers at the push of a button — everything wireless, no manual engagement needed.

  • Complete remote-control operation
  • No manual engagement required
  • Push-button engage / disengage
  • Ideal for frequent use
  • Premium features and performance

Battery Requirements

Motor movers run off your caravan's 12V house battery. We recommend a minimum 100Ah capacity — especially for twin axle caravans, which need more power to manoeuvre.

A mover system adds roughly 30–35kg per axle. Average current draw is around 20 amps, peaking up to 100 amps during operation — so a healthy battery matters. If yours is getting tired, see our RV battery upgrades.

Common Questions

Motor Mover Questions, Answered

Manual or automatic engagement — which should I get?

If you're watching the budget or only move the caravan occasionally (say, in and out of home storage), manual engagement is simple and reliable. If you'll use it often and want the convenience of full push-button control, automatic engagement is worth the extra. We'll talk you through both for your situation.

What battery do I need to run a motor mover?

A 12V house battery with a minimum of around 100Ah is recommended, particularly for twin axle caravans. The mover draws roughly 20 amps on average and can peak near 100 amps, so a strong, healthy battery makes for smooth operation. If yours needs refreshing, our battery upgrades can help.

Can you fit a mover to single and twin axle caravans?

Yes — we install motor movers on both single and twin axle caravans at our Christchurch workshop, choosing a system with enough capacity for your caravan's weight and number of axles.

Will it move my caravan up a slope?

Yes. A quality motor mover provides enough torque to move your caravan up gradients and will hold it steady on an incline rather than letting it roll, making positioning on uneven ground safe and controlled.

How long does installation take?

Most installs are completed within a day. We'll confirm the timeframe once we've looked at your caravan and chosen the right system.
